Being from the old school crowd I like floor boards and stock controls with a set of 'Highway' bars' out front but a lot of my friends like pegs with what have become known as 'forward' controls.
In lieu of the floorboards I like 'low' pegs with mid-controls and this is what we're looking at right now.
We're fortunate in that we've got mid control mounts from several different manufacturers to look at. To be honest most of them are flimsy junk but some are pretty good. All of the mid-mounts are similar and nobody knows for sure who first came up with the basic designs. There are only a finite number of ways to make Mids for a Big Twin without having to weld something to the frame.
I bought a set of Mids from Billy Lane a number of years ago and then got a set from Jesse James a few years later and a guy who came into my old shop told me that both of these designs were basically just a copy of an original design done by BDL so like I said I have no idea who actually first came up with some of these ideas.
I drew Cad drawings of everything we had on hand and we cut some parts to mess around with to find a better system that what's been available so far.
